About Puerto Jiménez

Puerto Jiménez today is a peaceful, safe, quiet village with one main street where you can find a variety of small shops, but as late as the l980's it was a thriving boom town with its own gold rush. Goods were bartered and sold for gold nuggets and even now you are able to purchase nuggets found in the nearby rivers. Puerto Jimenez is located on the beautiful and safe to swim Golfo Dulce which is home to pods of dolphins, nesting place of seaturtles and its depths which can plunge to over 1000' are winter waters for whales. The average water temperaturea is 84 degrees year around. Today's facilities include an airport, cell tower, public dock, bus station, bank, restaurants that range from sodas with Tipical food, pubs with casual fare and sports to more upscale choices and transportation to Corcorvado National Park. Puerto Jimenez is surrounded by forests, tropical beaches, mangroves and inland waterways. It is the home to scarlet macaws, cappuccino monkeys and friendly people. The surroundings are as magical as they are tropical.
